About St. Bernard Bankruptcy

Taya Sweeden graduated from Denver University College of Law in 1997.  Since that time, she has acted as advocate on both sides of the Bankruptcy system.  She worked for the Standing Chapter 13 Trustee as a staff attorney for three years and spent the other seven years working directly for debtors as a consumer bankruptcy attorney.  Her experience on both sides of the system allows her to effectively anticipate potential issues and design your bankruptcy to avoid or minimize problems caused by lack of experience, knowledge, detail or disclosure.

In September 2005, on the eve of the new bankruptcy enactment, Ms. Sweeden opened her own firm, now operating as St. Bernard Bankruptcy.  One of the first Denver-metro area firms to adopt a trade name, the St. Bernard Bankruptcy name comes from Ms. Sweeden’s passion for guiding people through difficult financial storms utilizing bankruptcy - the rescue companion, strong, able and up to the task regardless of the conditions.  We firmly believe that ignoring an avalanche of debt can bury you.  It is our mission to guide you out of the storm back to where you belong.

April Norton
joined St. Bernard Bankruptcy after four years as a staff attorney for the Standing Chapter 13 Trustee of the District of Colorado.  Prior to that, she advocated on behalf of individuals in bankruptcy, domestic relations, and criminal defense.  Ms. Norton is very enthusiastic about compassionate, yet effective, representation and guidance of clients through the bankruptcy process.

Ms. Norton has spoken at numerous continuing legal education classes presented by the Colorado Bar Association and the Standing Chapter 13 Trustee.  Additionally, she has litigated many bankruptcy cases – several of which have resulted in published opinions.
Originally from Shalimar, Florida, Ms. Norton obtained her Juris Doctorate from Loyola University School of Law – New Orleans in 2003.  While at Loyola, she studied abroad at the University of Vienna, Austria.

Ms. Norton shares in the belief that guidance through the financial storm can be smooth.  Like a St. Bernard, St. Bernard Bankruptcy actively performs rescue work.  Our rescue focuses on bringing those in the financial blizzard back to a warm, safe place.  If you are currently in fear of being buried, or are already feeling the weight of the storm from never ending credit card bills, medical bills, harassing phone calls, late car payments, and/or mortgage payments – it is time to seek the relief that St. Bernard Bankruptcy can provide.
